Hey Tony!
Just got my tickets for the Beast tour in August, and am a little confused- you have only the 6th and 7th listed, but at the KC site (and ... Ticketmaster), they have 6th 7th and 8th listed. Is this is error on your site, or are you not playing on the 8th? Hehehe...
Cheers man!

Could you place a signature on it when you are in the Netherlands??

Tony Levin has been a major influence to me as an avid fan of Hard and Progressive Rock. Since 1979 when I would Hear King Crimson on San Jose's KOME Radio a show called StoneTrek with Greg Stone.
In 1981 my ears met Tony Levin on the 1st track, Elephant Talk. For 27 years Tony Levin's bass and style has been a daily staple in my audio system and its still fresh. Thanks Tony. You are one of my top 5 bass playing musicians of all time.

Un espectaculo que por supuesto no olvidarè mientras viva.

Tony -- I've been thinking about a 3-string bass again lately. I approached EBMM a while back about making a one-off bass, similar to the one that you lost in the fire. They were gracious but said 'no, thank you, we'll never do another one." However, I read in an old interview with you that EBMM might consider building another one for you. If they haven't done that already, would you -- and EBMM -- consider building two, one for you and one for me? I'm very interested in this kind of project. Either way, please let me know. And thanks for all the great music. There's a great clip of KC from 1981 on youtube -- you guys just nailed Elephant Talk that day.

Just pulled my old 10 string #822 out of its rotting case after many years. It was encased in a foam pudding so I cleaned her up, put on a set of new 20 year old strings, hung a picture of you on my wall and started learning Brown Sugar(the 1st tune I learned on Bass). One problem, my tired old eyes have turned much of the finger-board into a brown blob. Two questions for you; how much does a set of strings set ya back these days and does the word vacation mean anything to you? CIAQ.

hey tony: I'd just like to say thanks for all the inspiration you have provided me in my music emdeavors, although I'm mainly a guitar player, i delve into bass as well(mainly for lack of adventureous players in my area). I purchased a pair of funky fingers years ago from a flyer I picked up at a league of crafty guitarist show at cornell university and have become fairly proficient with them. People usually flip out when I pull them out wondering what the they are. Just wanted to say thanks again, by the way you still got that Harley you rode to the first show of the Thrak tour(great show by the way)?

Hi Tony. Hope you and your family are well. Another 10 day Berks County PA Jazz Fest (the biggest one in US, possibly the world) AND YOU ARE NOT HERE. Chris Botti played Sat PM to a sold out crowd and I was remembering the first time I ever saw him he was playing with you. Peter White, and Bill B at the TLA in Philadelphia. Brother Mike was working with you at that time.
Please don't think I am stalking you as I write you every year at this time... .but would love to see you perform around here.

Hi Tony, your bass playing and sound on John Lennon's session is totally diffrent from Paul Mc Cartney and Klaus Voormann who played a lot with John. Is this something you discussed with John as it made John Lennon's music sound diffrent (I think) or did this just occur? Can you remember your first meeting with John Lennon? Also did you jam a lot of old stuff with Lennon? And finally I heard they where filming during these sessions, is there any available for public?
I was only 13 years old in 1980 and I was inspired when I started to listen to John Lennon. In 1981 I started making music (yes a bass player).

Hi Tony, you are no doubt the greatest Stick player there is. Thanks for the Stick Man album. One word of advice for all stick players: the stick gives its player a tremendous variety of possibilities, but please don't try to use them all at once. Music, in my opinion, is still about playing a tune.

Tony, I have an insanely cool collaboration idea for you... I don't know if you have heard any work by a young Uke virtuoso named Jake Shimabukuro, but this kid is unreal. He was on Conan last night playing his signature solo arrangement of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and COMPLETELY blew everyone away, especially Conan. He kept saying over and over again how of all the stuff he has seen before while doing his show, that was the coolest and most favorite of anything he has experienced! The kid is brilliant. I have seen him on YT doing it and he just keeps getting better and better. He's as engaging a performer as he is a player. Anyway, I just thought pairing the two of you would be phenomenal! The contrast of your bass or stick with his koa uke and both of your melodic senses would be insanely cool! Just had to get the thought out... If any other posters here think the same, let Tony know! Cheers!!

Tony, as a follow-up to your solo benefit concert here in Rochester, I thought you might like to know that ABC News (with Charlie Gibson) did a report on the huge benefit to getting those $5 mosquito nets to areas where malaria is taking so many lives and they noted that it is having a VERY significant impact! You did more than you probably could have known by giving that concert and being so gracious to donate all proceeds to that project!! God's Blessings on ya, man! ;-)

Hey Tony, I just downloaded Stick Man from iTunes. What a treat! As one of the many who discovered Stick thru seeing you play (it was the intro to "Satori In Tangier" on the 1984 KC tour vid that made me buy one), let me be amongst the cheering acolytes: Bravo! Worth the wait! Not that we stick players ever complain about hearing the best bassist in the world play, but just as at every gig there is buzz amongst us when the stick is strapped on, we cheer and thank our guru for this extended etude. Safe travels! -Jeff

Hi Tony, great NAMM pictures, I am the third bald guy in the picture between you and Michael. It was an honor to meet you and Michael both. That was my first time going to NAMM, and I will be there next year for sure.
Thanks for all your great inspiration not only as a bass player, but as a human being. My good friend Jamie Cirrito always speaks very highly of you, and has said that you were his role model when he was growing up and learning to play bass back in your neck of the woods. He lives here in Tucson and plays with a great Reggae band, Neon Prophet.

Hi Tony, I just wanted to say thanks for letting me get a picture with you at this year's recent NAMM show (2008) - and I also wanted to thank you for indirectly teaching me to play bass; ever since I was young, I was interested in the bass, and when I first heard you playing on Peter Gabriel's SO album, I was inspired to really dive into it full force and learn everything about the bass and bass playing that I could - so I started out by playing the albums featuring your bass lines on my home stereo with the bass turned all the way up and the treble turned all the way down and then play along to your bass lines (with my crappy pawn shop Ibanez 4-string and Crate 15 watt 8-inch practice amp) and from then to now I learned everything that I could to become a better bass player; of course I now own much better and nicer gear and I've been playing bass for 21yrs but I really owe you many thanks for starting the madness! I am now a certified bassaholic, and I thank you for the inspiration!

Hello Tony,
I have been a huge fan of your playing style since the first time I ever heard that signature sound on Peter Gabriel's Security album. Without the power of the internet in my youth (70's through 80's), I slowly learned about you and your many musical projects. I have a friend who invented a new tapping-style string instrument, similar but more extensive, than the Stick. The thing is called a Harpeji and available from Marcodi Musical Products. It's a pretty intense instrument, but instantly thought of you when I first saw this thing in concept form. I thought you (and any other Stick players who read this) might be interested in checking it out. See you in Philly or Southern NJ area. Take care.

Almost two years ago you were in Vancouver with Todd and Jerry and I had a chance to attend a concert for free, and turned it down (i was ill at the time). Of course, I'm kicking myself ever since! I've known of you from Peter Gabriel's band of course, but since that concert (which got rave reviews) I've discovered 'your' music - Stick man, Double Espresso, Resonator - its funky, wild and makes my feet want to move to the beat. Come back to Vancouver and I'll be first in line to buy a ticket!

Dear Tony Levin,
Today is my birthday. I'm 40 years old.
30 years ago. I was listening to a Peter Gabriel record. and discovered an amazing instrument and a fantastic musician.
A few month after, I bought my first bass guitare.
30 years after. I choose my birthday gift. Today I will have a stingray V.
But the main object of this message is just to thank you, my father in the world of bass.

Hi there! Just wanted to share opinion, maybe one will agree... recently saw two Gabriel's arts -
Secret World and Growing Up both Milano. Sorry to say this, though I'm a bass player too and I recognise bass-drum connection on stage-by watching "steam"(secret W.) or "shaking .." i felt more connectivity with Manu K. and Yourself than in "growing up" 2003 show even in "red rain"... please ,tell me i'm wrong but the work on "secret ..." did dig my soul very deep :) best regards:)
ps.THE video is just badass:)

I am in such awe of Tony's bass playing. I first noticed him on John Lennon's Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey albums. In particular a track called "I don't want to face it" where the bass is prominent and cool.I wonder if Tony can share some memories of these sessions. They really sound like fun sessions. I would love to hear little stories or his impressions good or bad of the Double Fantasy session and particularly of the great John Lennon.
