Bruford Levin Upper Extremities
(CD)
The music is what you might expect when King Crimson's rhythm section
blends with David Torn's outer space looping, held together by Chris Botti's
Miles-like cool melodic sense on the horn. Pieces vary from ballads to heavy
rocking ones - with one total improv, titled President's Day. Tying the
tracks together are some excerpts of Bruford drumming on the derelict piano
in my garage. There's also my tape of a band dinner at a local Woodstock
restaurant, which morphs into the track we were discussing at the table. The
package is self-designed, rounding out the trio of CD's with this packaging.
On this one I had taken a cover photo, planning to hand tint it, but I
decided to paint instead, skipping the photo all together. I then did a few
more paintings while listening to the looped rough tracks of the music -
liked them so much I used them as art in various parts of the package.
