About the print:
The artist: Tony Levin. The subject: King Crimson's Robert Fripp.
The image, shot backstage in Milan before a King Crimson concert in 1982, started out as a
black and white photo, and was featured in Tony Levin's 1985 book "Road Photos."
Later it was hand tinted using Marshall Oils, (applied much thicker than is normal practice - "hand painted"
may be a better description than tinted.) The full color version has been included in photo exhibitions in Zurich, Boston,
Danbury CT, (where it was the featured image in the posters for the
Connecticut Photographics exhibit,) Woodstock, and Tokyo.
This is a limited print edition of 200 copies of the original, each hand numbered, titled and signed by the artist.
The print process, called Iris Giclée process, was done by an excellent company,
Cone Editions, in Vermont, and
no efforts were spared to make it the highest quality possible.
The print is on special 100% rag fine art paper, using CEPPHO inks manufactured by the printer to provide the highest
combined lightfastness and broadest color spectrum.
Silkscreen coating has been added
to insure against colors fading or staining. The artist favors a rough hewn look to the edges of the paper,
so they have been deckled.
Prints are shipped with glassine protective sheet, accompanied by a page certifying authenticity.
