Another week of rehearsing... and I have some photos from that, but first, last night's 'friends & family' run through show in Tring, were we have been rehearsing.
Here we are, close to going onstage. Somewhat less fully suited up, the way we'll be at the public shows starting Monday.
and, what in the world... are we throwing magical hexes in hopes of playing the songs right?...
More on that later...
Back to the rehearsals these last 14 days... I was thrilled, of course, when Michele arrived after the first week. He, Michele Russotto, has been setting up my
bass equipment and much more for the last... well quite a few years and tours.
Ah, he quickly discovers why my very vintage Yellow Bass has only half the volume output of the other bass...
Those are the broken windings of one of the pickups... wow, we're not going to try to repair that... anyway the bass sounds great with one coil, just less output than it once had.
Meanwhile, occasional playbacks are needed, to see where we're at with the pieces... but can be a tad painful to endure
At one point we tried a group photo... too burnt out from rehearsing to get a good one...
and, plenty of time devoted to making up setlists...
a card for each song...
Ian sets up mic for a new recording of all the band members, to be played before the show...
Okay, back to the live run-through on the 29th.
Seats are brought into the venue, our road cases have been cleared out.
A first view of Adrian and the merch we'll have on tour
and, backstage, the band prepares...
And, back to those maneouvers we're going through... the pre-show fist ritual...
At this point, I'd normally have some pictures of the audience during the 'bows' after the show. But on this tour, having asked the audience
not to take photos, I'm going to refrain from taking them myself.
Felt pretty strange heading onstage without the camera... I can hardly remember when I last did that!
Afterwards, a nice chat with Crimson drummer Bill Bruford, who had come to hear the music
It was a succesful run-through of our show (not too many mistakes!) and very nice encounter with lots of friends afterward.
Heading back to our hotel, a scene worth shooting
Tomorrow we'll move the gear to the Friars theater in Aylesbury, set up there and do another run through, in further preparation for the public show the day after.
More then.
