May 6, Rotterdam
The fates of touring smiled upon us, and we had a great hotel last night. Located outside Arnhem, Holland (we drove an hour or two after the show) outside a small city, this hotel had
it all - unique rooms with unusual layouts, comfortable beds, free wireless hookup, and in the morning I found very good coffee in the dining room.
Both Peter and I have been taking closuep photos of flowers lately, and with this park-like setting I was out early to get some shots of the
many flowers. I kind of escaped from my room (in the old carriage house building of the hotel) because I needed to recharge batteries, and they
had the kind of setup where your room key turns on the electric for the room - take it out and the power goes off. So I left by the window,
so as to keep the batteries charging! Anyway, flowers were lovely,
I met up with Thomas Waber, head of Inside Out Records, which will be
releasing the upcoming California Guitar Trio record I've produced, and we had some excellent espresso.
A trip to the train station, couple of hours on the train, and we were in Rotterdam. Went right to the venue (with more travel after the show, so
no hotel here,) and settled in. It's a venue we've played in many times before. On arriving, I can't help but remember fondly the time we
rode bicycles from Amsterdam to this venue (60 miles) and then played the show on tired legs. No biking on this tour, except for Peter,
onstage!
The show was quite organized - all the little production elements are already solved (at least for tonight!)
I've sorted out some of my camera exposure issues, so exposures are better (still never enough light for really clear pictures unless
we're playing outdoors!) and I managed to get a shot of Peter on Downside Up.
After the show, another runner: into the van and an hours drive to Amsterdam, for a day off!
More soon!
