August 5, L'Aquila
Not so many photos of this, the last show of our Crimson ProjeKCt tour, but it might be a good time to share some thoughts about the tour.
For the Americans in the group, this will be literally an around the world trip - we left in mid June for New Zealand, and Australia (where it was Winter),
then continued westward to Europe, in mid-Summer. And tomorrow
we'll fly back to the U.S. having played 22 shows in 9 countries, and taken a week off for King Crimson rehearsals in England.
For me, it took me to a few places
I'd never been before - in the mountains of Romania, and the North Atlantic Sea off Bodø, Norway, the furthest North I've ever been on the planet.
I just saw, on Facebook, some more accurate stats, from Francesco Grieco, our great promoter/agent: He's got the info not from just July/August but the
whole tour, which started in late Spring: 'The Crimson ProjeKCt European Tour 2014 has just finished: 37 shows in 17 different countries, 56 days on the road, more than 20000 km driven and 21000 km flown.'
__________
Actually, I'm uploading this page from the trip back to the U.S. - flight delayed, with hours at the airport - kind of a fitting situation for a trip that's involved
so many flights and airports, and more than a couple of flight delays!
The best part was, as usual, making good music, and sharing it with wonderful audiences, large and small. I'm very grateful for the chance to do that.
In L'Aquila, the venue is one we've played before - a lovely outdoor stage, for their "Blues Under the Stars" series of concerts.
Some strange goings-on at the back of the stage... as is appropriate on the last show of a tour...
The party's over, it's time for us to go home...
Maybe more accurate to say, this party is over, since most of us are heading, in less than a week, to our Three of a Perfect Pair music camp,
where we'll have a week of hanging out, rehearsing and discussing music with campers - musicians and non-musicians, and doing a show at the
end of that week.
For me that'll be followed by King Crimson rehearsals and tour - so hopefully lots more web updates coming here on the site.
And a last thanks to all the crew and production people who made the tour happen - their pictures are scattered through the 15 pages of this tour diary, but don't
indicate all the hard work they do every day and night.
